vintage favorites, 4

i know of people who have boxes and boxes of old hats and millinery flowers.

i share their love of all things vintage and floral...

but when you are in the business of selling vintage, one of the drawbacks is that most of what is found is passed on to others and sold.

here is a bit of what i have been given, bought or kept back for myself...

i love all the colors and textures... dreamy, creamy velvet

silk handmade flowers, tattered and worn (and some of them, unfinished)

tiny forget-me-nots

all in the scrumtious colors of a summer cottage garden.

vintage favorites, day 3

i have a very small collection of vintage rhinestone jewelry, but i love what i have and wear each piece often.

i currently am on the hunt for a *pink* rhinestone pin~

vintage favorites, day 2

i love vintage beaded items, from baskets to belts, hats to handbags, and buy them whenever i find them at a price i can afford.
here is the vintage beaded cigarette case we bought from judy's yard sale on a background of one of my vintage handbags.

happy july!

i realized this morning that we are today at the half way mark of this year...
often during the long hot months of summer i find myself looking ahead instead of just enjoying the many pleasures that the season brings.
i also find myself in a lull...can't get inspired, can't get motivated to post anything to these pages.
suzanne at pink roses has a fabulous idea that i think i might borrow.
for the month of july, suzanne will post a photo a day...sometimes it will be something tiny around her house, sometimes a photo of her garden, others will feature a vignette of one of her wonderful collections. she is a very gifted photographer, and a wonderful writer as well. if you have never read her blog, don't miss it. i know it will soon be one of your favorites, as it is mine.
while i am in no ways in suzanne's league, i do enjoy wandering my home and looking through the camera's eye at small things.
this is my selection for today: a few of my remaining vintage buttons.
last year, as a promotion
for our online shop at silver bella, we made up 10 goodie bags and loaded them with some of our favorite vintage trims, lace and buttons.
not much remains, so it is time to replenish my stash.
i rather miss some of the ones i parted with, but i will find more and after all, the quest is half the fun.
hope your month is off to a great start~

vintage *pink* kitchen cabinet

a couple of weeks ago kristi and i were out hunting and came across this fabulous vintage glass front cabinet.
i love these old cabinets. they are great for display but are also extremely practical if you have a vintage home. lots of older homes are lacking adequate cupboard space; i have used pieces such as these as a pantry. they look fantastic stuffed full of vintage tins and old jars and canisters filled with dry goods. when we found it we of course wanted it for our shop, but talked ourselves out of buying it. right after that we found a 1941 corner cabinet that had been painted jadeite green with red trim. we bought that instead and had in in our antique shop space within minutes.
but we couldn't get this pink cabinet out of our minds.
so, days later, we went back to see if it was still there. it was, and we succumbed.

someone had at some point, decided to 'refinish' this piece.
ack!!!
they worked a bit on one side and a small piece of the front with paint stripper. thank goodness they got discouraged and quit.
i was able to closely match the paint and touched it up, and it looks great.we are planning on covering the four shelves with vintage-patterned oil cloth. i love the funkiness of the paint and the original vintage glass knob.
but our very favorite thing about this piece is the decal that someone put on one side; isn't she so cute?!?
we are, of course, leaving it on there.
thank goodness the 'refinisher' didn't start on that side!

yard sale finds

so here is what we found at judy's sale:
english floral bone china teapot; a set of vintage pink damask napkins; a pair of two vintage pink damask christmas napkins...
a few pieces of funny 70s beaded fruit; a 1960s avocado green jewelry tray, and a small old mirror with the speckled finish we all love in a shabby cream painted frame.
we also bought a pink and aqua ruched satin hankie box, and a marble-base 60s hairspray can holder; 3 vintage quilted satin glove and stocking dresser boxes, all in shades of pink...
a box of vintage christmas ornaments, all very shabby and most pink... there also were 4 or 5 very old mercury glass clip-on bird ornaments; they don't have their tails anymore, but i don't mind...
and a 1950s/ 60s record holder. (its the white rack-thing holding the ornaments). it was originally meant to hold old 45's. i have no idea what i will do with it, but i like it.

we found 2 framed huldah prints and an old gold florist's arrangement holder in a wonderful fan shape...

an unframed oil painting in a very cheerful color; a 1950s cat planter...
a 1940s toilet paper holder in black with pink roses. it needs to be cleaned up but hey, it was $1.

i also bought two boxes of 1960s satin ornaments. these are the kind that form the base for the beaded ornaments i adore finding. love the hot pink color!

also, rhinestone belt buckles (which i didn't get in the picture) two rhinestone pins, a daisy pattern beaded case (originally a cigarette case, but would be great for bills and credit cards);
two currier and ives vintage plates: winter and spring, in pleasing pastels...
and a pink painted mesh metal stand, from the 40s or 50s.

all that and the pink lloyd loom blanket chest.
not a bad haul for half an hour!

hope you had a fun saturday and that you found wonderful vintage treasures of your own~

ramblin' ruby's yard sale

oh, yeah.
we hit judy's yard sale yesterday afternoon. i am sure she was relieved to see us come and go, because she had been fighting people off all afternoon, as they were trying to gain early access.you'll really have to pardon my photos; when i am in the field, i get so excited i am really not focused on anything but the goods...and, so, as you can see, neither are my photos!judy had bargain tables with vintage stuff ranging in price all the way down to 50 cents..
50 cents!!!! we made two piles: things we bought for re-sale, and my own personal pile, which was the larger of the two.
one thing i didn't get a picture of was a 1930s lloyd loom pink blanket chest with floral fabric on the top. it is already in our space in the shop.
we wish we were able to put large things on our website. it is really a wonderful piece: it can do double duty as bench for the foot of the bed or as a window seat in a bay window.
we recently sold a green one we had in our shop space, but this one actually has the 'lloyd loom' original sticker. and, as i said, it is PINK!!!!
if it doesn't sell it will eventually make it's home with me.
tomorrow i will show you what else we brought home.
is there anything more fun that hitting some really good sales and coming home and spreading out your treasure?
